Educational Qualification and Experience
To apply for the PNB Local Bank Officer (LBO) Recruitment 2026, candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized University or Institution. In addition to the educational qualification, applicants must have at least one year of post-qualification work experience in the Clerical or Officer cadre of a Scheduled Commercial Bank or Regional Rural Bank (RRB) listed under the Second Schedule of the RBI Act, 1934. Both the educational qualification and the required work experience must be completed on or before 9 August 2026.
Important: Fresh graduates are not eligible for this recruitment. Only candidates who have completed a minimum of one year of banking experience after graduation in a Scheduled Commercial Bank or RRB can apply.
Candidates who have served as Officers in Scheduled Commercial Banks may also be eligible for up to two advance increments at the time of appointment, subject to PNB’s rules and the relevance of their previous job profile to the Scale-I Generalist Officer position.

1. Online Written Examination
The first stage is an Online Written Test. Candidates should note that 0.25 marks (one-fourth of the marks assigned to a question) will be deducted for every incorrect answer. To qualify, candidates must secure the minimum sectional qualifying marks prescribed by the bank:
- General/EWS: 40% in each section
- SC/ST/OBC/PwBD and other reserved categories: 35% in each section
The online examination is tentatively scheduled for August or September 2026. In Assam, the likely examination centres are Dibrugarh, Guwahati, Jorhat, Silchar, and Tezpur.
2. Local Language Proficiency Test (LLPT)
Candidates who have not studied the local language of the state as a subject in Class 10 or Class 12 must appear for the Local Language Proficiency Test (LLPT). The test assesses the candidate’s reading, writing, and speaking skills in the prescribed local language.
The LLPT is qualifying in nature, but candidates who fail to clear it will not be considered for final selection, regardless of their performance in the written examination or interview. Candidates who studied the required local language in Class 10 or Class 12 are exempted from the LLPT, subject to verification of relevant documents.
3. Personal Interview
Candidates who qualify in the written examination will be called for a Personal Interview, which carries 50 marks. The minimum qualifying marks are:
- 25 marks (50%) for General, EWS, OBC and other categories
- 22.50 marks (45%) for SC/ST candidates
The final merit list will be prepared state-wise and category-wise based on the combined performance in the Online Written Examination and the Personal Interview. If two or more candidates secure the same marks, the older candidate will be ranked higher in the merit list.
