The Assam Orunodoi Scheme is a flagship welfare initiative of the Government of Assam aimed at providing monthly financial assistance to economically vulnerable families through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). Under the latest Orunodoi 3.0 phase, eligible women beneficiaries receive ₹1,250 per month, with additional benefits announced for certain eligible households under the state’s welfare initiatives. The scheme is designed to strengthen women’s financial independence, reduce poverty, and ensure a steady source of income for essential household expenses such as food, healthcare, and education.

Assam Orunodoi Scheme
The Government of Assam introduced the Orunodoi Scheme on 2 October 2020. The scheme gives monthly financial support to poor and needy families across the state.
Under this programme, the government transfers money directly to the bank account of the selected woman in each family. The scheme mainly supports women who manage household needs and care for their families.
The initial plan covered more than 24 lakh economically weak households. The government later set a target of reaching around 26 lakh families. The monthly support was also increased from Rs. 830 to Rs. 1,450.
Payments are generally made through Direct Benefit Transfer on a monthly basis. The money helps families meet costs related to medicine, food, electricity, cooking gas and other basic needs.
How Are Orunodoi Beneficiaries Selected?
The District Level Monitoring Committee supervises the selection of eligible families. The first review is carried out at the local level by the Gaon Panchayat, Village Council Development Committee (VCDC) or Urban Local Body (ULB).
Officials check each application against the scheme rules. They review the family’s income, social condition, documents and other details before preparing the beneficiary list.
An eligibility and ineligibility checklist is used during the process. This checklist is included as Annexure A in the official guidelines. It helps officials examine each household in a clear and uniform way.
Only families that pass the required checks are recommended for Orunodoi benefits.
